Jags Swept At Armstrong, 3-0

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The GRU Augusta volleyball team lost to the #19th ranked Armstrong Pirates 3-0 (18-25, 13-25, 20-25), Saturday afternoon at Armstrong in Savannah, Ga. The loss marks the first time the Jags have lost back-to-back games this year.

GRU (17-6, 7-4 PBC) had three players record a negative hitting percentage as the team compiled just a .088 attack percentage overall. The Pirates (18-1, 11-0 PBC) won for the 13th time in a row and notched a .366 hitting percentage and had five blocks to the Jaguars' one.

Set one ended 25-18 in Flagler's favor and it would be a sign of things to come for the Pirates. In set two, the Pirates cruised to a 25-13 victory while posting a .545 attack percentage with just one error.  The Jaguars enjoyed their first extended lead of the match in set three at 6-2, but once again the Pirates proved to be too much for the Jaguars and ultimately won 25-20, taking the match 3-0.

Freshman Kali Boatwright led the way for the Jaguars with 13 kills and eight digs and a .281 attack percentage. Senior Maggie Darling provided five kills of her own and added two service aces. Junior Katie Beresford also had five kills for the Jaguars.

Stephanie Sfara led the Pirates, with nine kills and eight digs, two service aces and a .333 attack percentage, while Kamryn Sherman added six kills, eight digs, 29 assists and a perfect 1.000 attack percentage.

The Jags return home for a conference game with Columbus State at 7:00 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse in Augusta, Ga. Fans are asked to wear pink, for breast cancer awareness. All proceeds will be donated back to GRU Cancer Center.
