Flagler Snaps Jags’ Eight-Game Win Streak

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The GRU Augusta volleyball team had their seven-game win streak snapped in a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference loss to the Flagler Saints in St. Augustine, Fla., in the Flagler Gymnasium.

GRU (17-5, 7-3 PBC) had five players record a negative hitting percentage as the team compiled a -.097 attack percentage – their worst of the season.  The Saints (9-12, 4-7 PBC) notched a .301 hitting percentage and had 16 blocks to the Jaguars' three.

Set one ended 25-18 in Flagler's favor and it was the closest affair of the night.  GRU's nine points in the third and final set were the fewest points that they have scored all season in a set.

Jaguar junior Kailla Baptiste led the way for the Jags with seven kills, while Katie Beresford and Maggie Darling had four. Alyssa Latham had 12 assists and Catherine Desilvester dug 15 shots in the straight-set loss. Flagler's Genel Sturgeon posted a match high 10 kills, while she assisted with five blocks. The Saints also got help from Sara Davis and Taja Valmyr who each had nine kills.

The Jaguars play another league match at Armstrong tomorrow, Saturday Oct. 18 at 2:00 p.m. in Savannah, Ga.
