Jags Rally Late On Road And Win Again

DUE WEST, S.C., – The GRU Augusta Jaguars won their seventh match in a row on the road against Erskine (13-6,9-0) in a closely contested match that took five sets to be decided, (25-22, 11-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-9).  The loss snapped Erskine's nine game win streak.

The Jaguars (17-4) built an early 7-3 lead in set one and never looked back thanks to 11 kills and just two errors and an attack percentage of .360. In set two Erskine showed why they had won nine games in a row as 14 kills and just one error led the way for the Flying Fleet. The Fleet also rallied off five straight points, twice in set two. The Jags lost the advantage in set three as nine errors proved too much to overcome in a 25-20 setback.

Down two games to one, the comeback kids showed how clutch they could be. Set four proved to be tightly contested throughout, but the Jags were able to rally off five straight points, twice, and although Erskine would make the game interesting late at 25-24, GRU was able to close it out to force a fifth set. Set five was go time for the Jags, and they converted some early kills and were able to carry over their set four momentum to a 3-2 match win.

Freshman Kali Boatwright was back on the front line for the Jags and posted a team high 13 kills, and 10 digs. Junior Katie Beresford had an impressive game for GRU with nine kills and a .438 attack percentage. Freshman Paige Elliott had 10 kills and two blocks and senior Maggie Darling added five kills and 10 digs.
