Jags Display Defensive Prowess In Straight Sets

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta Jaguars (13-4, 4-2) took down the Francis Marion Patriots (4-8, 2-3) 3-0 in a Peach Belt Conference match (25-18, 34-32, 25-16) on Friday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jaguars defense looked impressive in set one, holding the Patriots to a .029 attack percentage and out blocking the Patriots five-to-zero, for the team to cruise to a win in straight sets.

The Jaguars won their third consecutive match and their 13th of the 2014 season with the Friday night league victory.

Senior Kristen Koch led the way for the Jaguars with 12 kills, and a .429 attack percentage. Catherine DeSilvester had three aces on serve, while Paige Elliott and Kailia Baptiste had two blocks each. Alyssa Latham had a team-high 35 assists.

In a crazy second set the Jaguars and Patriots battled back in forth, enduring many lead changes. Eventually, the Jaguars prevailed winning 34-32 on a set error from the Patriots. In set three the Jaguars cruised to a 25-16 victory winning the match in straight sets. GRU's Katie Beresford struck home a final kill in set three for the final.

Alexzandra Reed  had eight kills, and Chiquita Rivers had three blocks for the Patriots. The Jags hit the floor tomorrow for a 2:00 p.m. PBC match with the UNC Pembroke Braves at home in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
