GAFFNEY, S.C. – GRU Augusta Volleyball won their seventh consecutive match Tuesday night in a three-set, non-conference victory on the road at Limestone College in the Timken Center. The Jaguars improved to 7-1 on the year, while the Limestone Saints slid to 0-10.
In their last meeting on Sept. 5 at the Queens Invitational, GRU and Limestone played a five-set battle with the Jags prevailing behind Kali Boatwright's 17 kills and Cat Desilvester's 22 digs. GRU improved their hitting percentage from .163 to .245 to blank the Saints on their home court.
GRU started the night on a 4-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Katie Beresford and Kristen Koch and two service aces from Kali Boatwright. Limestone tied it at five all and kept it close, but GRU enjoyed a 6-0 run and never looked back to take set one 25-20, the closest of the night. The Jags hit .367 percent (match best) as a team in set one to the Saints' .194.
The Jags totaled eight blocks overall and six service aces, with Beresford leading the way with four block assists and one block solo. Alyssa Latham posted a match-high 33 assists for GRU and assisted in the net defense with three blocks.
Koch had another double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, Boatwright racked up nine kills and nine digs, and Paige Elliott killed six shots with two blocks.
GRU Augusta took set two 25-17 and set three 25-14 and won the kills contest 24-15.
The Jags begin Peach Belt Conference play when they host Armstrong this Friday, Sept. 19 for a 7:00 p.m. match and continue on Saturday, Sept. 20 for a 2:00 p.m. match with Flagler. Live video/stats found under the schedule page of volleyball at jaguarsroar.com
