Volleyball Adds Two In Early Signing

AUGUSTA, Ga. – GRU Augusta Head Coach Sharon Bonaventure announced Thursday afternoon that Autumn Harrington and Sadie Thurston will join the Jaguar Volleyball program for next season.

Harrington, a 6-2 right-side hitter from Lambert High School in Suwanee, Ga., played four years of varsity and four years with the Prolink Atlanta Volleyball Club team. She was named all-county and all-area after her senior efforts in 2013 and helped her squad place fifth at nationals. Harrington received the All-American award for her senior year as well at the conclusion of nationals.

"We are thrilled to have Autumn signed during this early signing period," Bonaventure said. "She is not only athletically strong, but a smart player in her shot selection. She has played as a six rotation right-side hitter for her club team and we are definitely interested in developing that area more and seeing how it translates at the collegiate level."

Sadie Thurston, a 5-10 setter Allen D. Nease High School in Ponte Vedra, Fla., will join the Jags to help set up the offense. Thurston was a four-year varsity starter and a two-time MVP at Nease High School. Her senior she helper her squad reach the Elite 8 tournament, while earning all-conference for her individual efforts and taking home MVP status at Southeastern Louisiana University's volleyball camp. Thurston will graduate with an International Baccalaureate diploma and finish in the top-nine percent of her class.

"Sadie brings an athleticism, enthusiasm, and excitement to the position of setter," Bonaventure said. "She has a very scrappy mentality when it comes to the defensive end of things and will provide additional blocking opportunities on the right side. Sadie will definitely have chances to battle for court time in the fall.
