Anderson Finishes Jags, 3-1

AUGUSTA, Ga. – GRU Augusta won a decisive third set over the Anderson Trojans, but dropped the match 3-1 on Saturday night in a non-conference match in the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson (15-12) had a 2-0 lead in the match and took a five-point advantage in the opening points of set three. The Trojans jumped up by seven at the 22-15 mark, but the Jags' (8-25) Paige Tuttle got a kill to start a six-consecutive point run. Junior Kristen Koch had two kills and junior Maggie Darling notched two service aces to cut it within one.

Tying it at 23-all, 24-all, and 25-all on another Koch kill, the Jags took the set 27-to-25 with McKenna Heath's ace and Jenna Keeler's kill. The Trojans wrapped up the night with a 25-14 set-four win. They hit .213 as a team to GRU's .121.

Koch had 14 kills and Keeler 10 for the Jags offense. Chandler Mass had 27 assists and Darling and Catherine DeSilvester each had 24 digs. Shannon Gillespie led both teams with 20 kills and 21 digs and Hailey Pittman had 16 kills. Meghan Cautero paced the night with 43 assists and Priscilla Irizarry gave 22 digs.
