Jaguars Beat Bobcats On Road

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – GRU Augusta won its second Peach Belt Conference match over Georgia College 3-2 on Wednesday, Nov. 13 in Centennial Center. The match was the Jaguars' last conference match of the season.

GRU Augusta (8-24, 2-16 PBC) dropped the first set 25-22, despite hitting .412 as a team with 16 kills. The Bobcats had an 11-5 lead in set one, but the Jags scored six in a row to even the set. GC hung on and knocked two final kills to go up 1-0 in the match.

The offense was steady for the Jags in set two, recording a .345 hitting percentage while keeping the Bobcats in the negatives with a -.080. GRU evened the sets at 1-all with a 25-15 win, but Georgia College enjoyed a big set three hitting .167 to GRU's .057 for a 25-16 victory.

Down 2-1 in a must win fourth set, the Jaguars let GC take a 4-0 lead before the comeback came. Senior Jenna Keeler and junior Paige Tuttle combined for a block to tie it at 14-all and a Paige Tuttle kill gave the Jags the lead. GRU scored three consecutive points to force a fifth set with a 25-20 win.

The Bobcats stole the first point of the final set on a GRU serving error. The lead was tied four times until the Jags spread it to 12-9 and never looked back. They took a 15-13 win for the set and match to give them their second league victory of the season.

GRU dominated the net with 20 blocks and had three with double-figure kills. The Jags ended the night with a .231 hitting percentage to GC's .111. Keeler and Tuttle each had 14 kills and junior Kristen Koch had a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs. Junior Chandler Mass had 29 assists, McKenna Heath 18, and Catherine DeSilvester had 18 digs. GRU returns to the floor on Saturday, Nov. 16 when they play at Anderson in Anderson, S.C., for a 4:30 p.m. first serve and their last match of the year.
