Jaguars Drop Close One To Royals

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Jaguar Volleyball program dropped a tight four-set non-conference match to Queens on Monday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Queens (11-10) won the opening two set, hitting .152 in set one and .296 in set two - their best hitting percentage of the night. Keri Kemp led the Royals with a match-high 16 kills, while Anna Gibbs had 10. In a must-win third set, GRU held off the Royals 25-21. The Jags scored the opening point and stay ahead until the 5-all mark. Queens went ahead midway through the set, but the Jags answered and held off Queens to force a fourth set on a .286 GRU hitting percentage.

Kristen Koch knocked 13 kills for the Jaguars (7-21) on the night and Katie Beresford and Kailla Baptiste each had 11. McKenna Heath led the night with 45 assists, the most of any team, and Catherine DeSilvester and Koch each had 17 digs, with Maggie Darling providing 11 and Michaela Honigl 10.

In another decisive fourth set, GRU had the Royals down 12-6 when the Queens comeback was sparked. Tied at 23-all, Gibbs got a kill to put Queens on top for them to hold on for a 3-1 night. The Royals hit .191 as a team to GRU's .183 and 10.0 blocks to the Jags' 6.0.

GRU returns to the floor this Wednesday at USC Aiken for a Peach Belt Conference match at 7:00 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
