Jaguars Drop Pair At Pirate Classic

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- GRU Augusta opened the 2013 season Friday with a pair of losses to Erskine and North Alabama in the Pirate Classic, presented by Optim Orthopedics, on the Armstrong campus.

In their season-opening match vs. Erskine, the Jaguars took the first set over the Flying Fleet 25-16 before dropping three straight and suffering a 3-1 loss. North Alabama then blanked GRU Augusta 3-0.

Junior outside Kristen Koch paced the Jags with a double-double vs. Erskine, notching 14 kills and 20 digs. Sophomore Kailla Baptiste added 10 kills while junior setter Chandler Mass posted 32 assists and 12 digs. Junior Maggie Darling chipped in 13 digs and a pair of aces.

Koch led the Jags offensively against North Alabama with nine kills while Mass tallied 28 assists. Darling registered a team-best 18 digs, Koch added 15 and Baptiste chipped in 10.

The Jags are back in action vs. Shorter on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 10:00 a.m., and face Lincoln Memorial at 1:00 p.m.
