AUGUSTA, Ga. – GRU Augusta Head Volleyball Coach Sharon Bonaventure has announced the singing of six student-athletes for the upcoming 2013 season.
The Jaguar Volleyball program will welcome Catherine DeSilvester, Hannah Gray, McKenna Heath, Michaela Hönigl, Chandler Mass, and Samantha Rivera for the approaching campaign.
Losing three seniors last year meant losing a defensive prowess in a main setter and a rotating defensive threat. This offseason Bonaventure spanned the nation and overseas to find a new middle hitter, two setters, and two liberos (a player specialized in defensive kills).
"From our back yard, to the west coast, to the north of us and to another country, we are happy and thrilled at who GRU Augusta volleyball is becoming and how our roster is shaping up this year," Bonaventure said. "We spent our time recruiting on the setter and defensive end of things to balance out our roster of hitters. We are excited about our recruiting class and about the upcoming season. The page has been turned and the new chapter begins for Georgia Regents University Volleyball, let's get started."
The Jaguars open the season on Sept. 6 against Erskine in the Armstrong Classic in Savannah, Ga., and home play begins on Sept. 13 when GRU Augusta hosts Columbus State. The Jags are coming off a 19-15 record in 2012, the fifth-most wins in school history in the 28-year program.
