Alverson Signs With ASU

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State head volleyball coach Sharon Bonaventure announced Friday the signing of Lauren Alverson. The fifth signee of the Spring, 2011 signing period, Alverson will enroll at ASU for the Fall, 2011 semester.

A 5-7 setter from Gulf Breeze, Fla., Alverson was a four-year starter at three different positions for Gulf Breeze High School and was ranked the No. 17 overall prospect by Maxpreps. She helped lead the Dolphins to a 29-1 record as a senior and an appearance in the Class AAAA Final Four.

Alverson tallied 798 assists in her prep career along with 477 digs, 276 kills, 151 aces and a 92.0 serving percentage.

"Lauren is a very nice addition to our program," Bonaventure said. "She is a defensive-minded setter which will help elevate her game at the collegiate level. She has played various positions on the floor which will lend tremendous understanding as to the role and responsibilities of her position as a setter.  Lauren, along with Krystin Wahlig, will be expected to lead our team offensively this year."

Alverson will be one of seven newcomers to the Jaguar Volleyball program, joining Alex Rohlfing, Kristen Koch, Chelsea Foster, Collette Richards, Paige Tuttle and Krystin Wahlig.

ASU wrapped up its second season under Bonaventure on Nov. 12, 2010 with an appearance in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Jags posted a record of 11-22 in 2010, one year after registering the second-most victories in a single season (22) in their first season under Bonaventure.
