Wahlig Inks With ASU

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State head volleyball coach Sharon Bonaventure announced Wednesday the signing of Krystin Wahlig. The fourth signee of the Spring, 2011 signing period, Wahlig will enroll at ASU for the Fall, 2011 semester.

A 5-8 setter from Freeburg, Ill., Wahlig averaged 10.3 assists per set as a sophomore in 2010 at John A. Logan Community College in Carterville, Ill. She was named the Great Rivers Athletic Conference Freshman-Of-The-Year in 2009 and was tabbed the GRAC Player-Of-The-Year at the end of last season.

She helped lead the Lady Vols to a 29-7 record in 2010, an 8-0 mark in the GRAC and a 4-0 record in Region 24. JALC captured back-to-back Region 24 titles the last two seasons and claimed the GRAC conference championship in 2010 as well. The Lady Vols were also ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation among junior colleges.

A four-year starter at Freeburg Community High School, Wahlig was an All-State selection and was named the Belleville News Democrat Player-Of-The-Year while helping lead Freeburg to the 2008 state championship. She also earned two letters in basketball.

"Krystin has a winning track record wherever she's been," Bonaventure said.  "She comes from a very strong volleyball state and we're looking forward to getting her into our program."

ASU wrapped up its second season under Bonaventure on Nov. 12, 2010 with an appearance in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Jags posted a record of 11-22 in 2010, one year after registering the second-most victories in a single season (22) in their first season under Bonaventure.
