AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State head volleyball coach Sharon Bonaventure announced Wednesday the signing of Collete Richards to a national letter-of-intent. Richards is the third signee of the Spring, 2011 signing period, which began April 13.
A 5-0 libero from Fayetteville, Ga., Richards is a four-year letterwinner from Landmark Christian School under Coach Barb Mason. The War Eagles' team MVP, Richards was named a 2010 Georgia Senior All Star and was an all-area, all-tournament, area champion and athlete of the month selection. She has also played club volleyball for five years, most recently for the Atlanta Juniors Orange Crush 18-1 team.
"Collette is and will be a spark plug for us," Bonaventure said. "She flies all over the floor and she's tenacious on every ball. She will provide tremendous balance in the back row for us defensively."
ASU wrapped up its second season under the direction of Bonaventure on Nov. 12, 2010 with an appearance in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Jags posted a record of 11-22 in 2010, one year after registering the second-most victories in a single season (22) in their first season under Bonaventure.
