Flagler Eliminates Jaguars

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Top-seeded Flagler advanced to the semifinals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Friday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over No. 8 seed Augusta State.

The victory lifted the Saints, the PBC regular-season champions, to a 25-8 record. The Jaguars saw their season come to a close at 11-22.

Junior Jessica Hanson, an all-PBC nominee, paced the Jaguars with 10 kills against just two errors. Senior Tarah Childress, who along with Chase Lowther made her final career appearance for ASU, notched eight kills against just a single error and managed the squad's top hitting percentage at .467.

Sophomore Mandy Irizarry and freshman Karolina Stenlund booked nine kills each, while freshman setter Lisa Bartsch had 37 kills. Freshman libero Andria Tagarelli turned in 16 digs and junior Lagi Roberts added 12 digs.

Flagler's Meg Weathersby, named the PBC Player-Of-The-Year on Friday, garnered 16 kills while Dianna Craine (11) and Laura Lancaster (10) combined for 21 kills.

ASU jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 26-24 before FC responded with a 25-12 win in the second set. The Saints, who tallied nine aces and nine blocks, then closed out the match with 25-20 and 25-19 wins in the third and fourth sets.
