AUGUSTA, Ga.
– Augusta State earned a split in a pair of matches
Saturday night when it rallied for a 3-2 non-conference victory
over Catawba in Christenberry Fieldhouse. Earlier in the day,
Montevallo got past the Jaguars, 3-1, in a Peach Belt Conference
matchup.
Sophomore Mandy
Irizarry paced the Jaguars (6-11 overall, 2-5 in the PBC) with
a career-high 22 kills against Catawba and added 15 digs. Junior Lagi
Roberts registered her eighth double-double of the season with
18 kills and 21 digs, while junior Jessica
Hanson booked 17 kills. Freshman setter Lisa
Bartsch garnered a career-best 63 assists.
Entering the fourth set, the Jags trailed 2-1 before posting a
25-17 victory to force the tie-breaker. In the fifth set, ASU
grabbed an early lead and outlasted the Indians for a 16-14 win in
the set and the match.
Earlier in the day, the conference-leading Montevallo topped ASU
3-1 and remained perfect in the league at 6-0 and moved to 10-5
overall. Irizarry tallied 16 kills against just five errors and
Bartsch managed 43 assists.
The Jags wrap up their six-match homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 6
when they welcome Francis Marion for a PBC showdown at 7:00 p.m.,
in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
