AUGUSTA, Ga. -
Augusta State head volleyball coach Sharon Bonaventure announced
Monday the signing of Lisa
Bartsch to the Jaguar Volleyball program.
A 5-7 setter from Leverkusen, Germany, Bartsch was part of a squad
that finished in second place at the German National Championships
in both 2008 and 2009. She helped lead her team to four straight
Regional Championships from 2006-2009 in the highest amateur league
in Germany.
Bartsch, who will enroll as a freshman at ASU for the Fall, 2010,
semester, will have four years of eligibility.
"Lisa will be our first international player that we've brought
into the program," said Bonaventure. "I can't wait to see what our
three setters -- Ashley
Zappitell, Mary Beth
Ingram and Lisa -- will bring to the program and how they will
lead our team offensively. Meredith (Berce, a sophomore outside
hitter for the Jaguars in 2010) actually knows some German after
spending several years there. I will rely on her if some
translation is needed."
The Jaguars return four starters and eight letterwinners from
their 2009 squad that racked up 22 victories -- the second-most in
school history -- and registered the second-best turnaround in a
single season in the 25-year history of the program.
