Knudsen, Smith Earn All-PBC Status As Jaguars Start Conference Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team opened the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Championships Thursday on the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

 

 

Augusta senior Kiana Smith was a standout for the Jaguars in the first two days. Kelly carded second in the grueling heptathlon event that is comprised of seven events. Kelly took runner-up with 3,893 points to earn PBC All-Conference honors. The top-three competitors in each event automatically earn All-Conference honors. Smith also took eighth in the javelin throw with a toss of 31.53m.

 

Jags junior McKenzie Knudsen also earned All-Conference status for her second-place showing in the 10,000-meter run. Knudsen crossed the line in 39:13.54 to take second in the field of 12.

 

Augusta junior Edrei Yates and sophomore Alyisha Anderson sit seventh and 10th in the prelims of the 100-meter race, while sophomore Micah Weathers is second after the prelims of the 1,500-meter.

 

The event continues Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. The PBC Championships, which are hosted by Embry-Riddle, will resume on Friday at 8:00 a.m. with the continuation of the heptathlon and decathlon. Field events are slated to get underway at 2:00 p.m., while running events will start back up at 4:30 p.m.
