Jags Card Third At PBC/Gulf South Crossover

MADISON, Ala. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track & field team placed third at the Peach Belt / Gulf South Conference Crossover on Saturday in Madison, Ala. The event was hosted by the University of Alabama Huntsville in Madison, Ala.

 

Alabama-Huntsville won the event on their home track with 175 points, while Lee took second with 173 points, Augusta third (66), Shorter fourth (60), and Clayton State fifth (58) out of nine teams.

 

AU sophomore Micah Weathers, the reigning PBC Track Athlete of the Week, set another school record in the 1500 meter race with a time of 4:47.21 to take third place. Jags sophomore Miranda Taylor finished the 1500m in 4:53.39 to set a new personal best and finish sixth. In the 3000 meter run, Augusta junior Sinead O'Bryant placed seventh in 11:39.09. Taylor also snagged third overall in the 800 meter with a time of 2:23.85.

 

Three-top 10 finishes came in the 5000 meter race when Augusta junior McKenzie Knudsen took second, freshman Madison Congdon sixth, and junior Helen Rendich seventh. Senior duo Ashley Leonard and Kiana Smith finished second and third in the shot put out of 17 participants. Smith also placed sixth in the javelin throw, while freshman Kaitlyn Lancaster earned seventh and senior Mallory Howard ninth.

 

Four competitors represented Augusta in the 400 meter dash. Freshman Jayla Ferris took 12th and senior Sarah Hossack and Morgan Mitchell took 13th and 14th. AU freshman Skylar Ackerman earned 18th in the 400 meter. Smith placed third in the high jump to set a new school record with a distance of 1.64m and senior Macy Hayes took fifth in 1.58m.

 

The PBC Championships take place April 18-20, hosted by Embry-Riddle, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
