Augusta Finishes Fourth of 13 At Trojan Challenge

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track & field team finished I fourth place out of 13 teams at the Trojan Challenge, hosted by the University of Mount Olive, March 29-30.

 

In the third meet of the season, the Jaguars started competition on Friday and wrapped up the event Saturday

 

Sophomore Micah Weathers set a new Augusta school record and won the 5000 meter race with a time of 17:23.20. Jags juniors Helen Rendich and Sinead O'Bryant took sixth and seventh, and freshman Madison Congdon crossed the line in eighth place to represent the Jaguars. In the 10K run, junior McKenzie Knudsen took second overall in 39:02.46,

 

AU's Sarah Hossack, Morgan Mitchell, Miranda Taylor, and Jayla Ferris won the 4x400 meter relay in 4:11.12 and Alyisha Anderson, Mitchell, Ferris, and Edrei Yates raced the 4x100 meter relay and took fourth in 49.89. Junior Rachel Hammesfahr finished sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 13:56.98.

 

Mitchell and Yates tied for 16th and Ferris finished 18th in the 200 meter race and in the 100 meter hurdles, Jaguar senior Kiana Smith placed 12th (17.15) and freshman Trinity Cooks took 15th (18.71). Senior Macy Hayes jumped to fourth place in the high jump and Cooks also finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles.

 

In the javelin throw, Smith took fifth place and in the triple jump, Anderson leaped to fourth place. Yates grabbed fourth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.45 and Anderson 10th in 13.17. In the 400 meter, senior Sarah Hossack sealed fifth place in 1:00.58 and freshman Jayla Ferris took 10th in 1:01.23.

 

On Friday, Augusta senior Mallory Howard finished in 11th in the hammer throw with a distance of 37.24m. AU junior JaNae Marzell took 15th and senior Ashley Leonard 18th in hammer throw as well.

 

Augusta competes at the Peach Belt / Gulf South Crossover on Saturday, April 6 in Huntsville, Ala., hosted by The University of Alabama In Huntsville.
