ROME, Ga. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team traveled to Rome, Ga. to compete in this year's Berry Field Day Invitational, hosted by Berry College, and the Jaguars took 13th out of 21 teams.
Lee finished first with 148.5 points, followed by Emory in second with 136.5 points. Shorter rounded out the top three teams with 99.5 points. It was Augusta's second meet of the season at Berry College, after they finished seventh at the Victor Icebreaker Duals on Saturday, March 3.
Senior Lara Way won yet another event, taking first in the 5000 meters. Her time of 17:38.94 also broke the school record, which she set earlier this year. Sophomore McKenzie Knudsen also snagged a top-10 finish in 18:40.94.
In the 3000 steeplechase, sophomore Rachel Hammesfahr took sixth with a time of 12:53.48. The 4x100 team consisting of junior Morgan Mitchell, freshman Alyisha Anderson, junior Susan Obi, and sophomore Edrei Yates finished 10th in 49.88. In the 4x400, junior Sarah Hossack, Lara Way, Susan Obi, and junior Morgan Mitchell snatched up third in 4:12.29. Anderson rounded out the top-10 in the triple jump with a distance of 10.84 meters. Sophomore Ashley Leonard also took eighth in the shot put with a toss of 10.77 meters.
The Jaguars look to take home the Peach Belt Conference Championship in their next outing April 19-21. The Championship this year is hosted by UNC Pembroke in Pembroke. N.C.
