AU Finishes Fourth At Braves Classic

 

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team traveled to Pembroke, N.C. this weekend to compete in the Braves Track Classic. The Jaguars took fourth overall out of 11 teams with a total of 63.5 points.

 

Host UNC Pembroke won the meet with 210 points, with Mount Olive taking second with 202.5 points, followed by Webber in third with 74 points.

 

In day one on Friday, March 16, AU sophomore JaNae Marzell took fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 36.74 meters, followed closely by fellow sophomore Mallory Howard in sixth in 35.15 meters. Another sophomore, Ashley Leonard, took the final top-10 place with a distance of 29.10 meters. On the track, freshman Hannah Kelehear took sixteenth in 5000-meter run with a final time of 23:10.76.

 

Junior Macy Hayes took second in the high jump with a height of 1.56 meters and in the shotput, Leonard threw for 10.56 meters to take seventh. She was followed by junior Kiana Kelly in ninth with 10.20 meters. Kelly also snagged seventh in the long jump with 5.10 meters. Marzell was able to close out the top-10 in discus with 29.08 meters.

 

Freshman Alyisha Anderson broke a new school record in the triple jump with a distance of 11.02 meters. Anderson set the previous record of 10.97 meters earlier this season in Rome, Ga.

 

On the track, the 4x100 meter team of Morgan Mitchell, Alyisha Anderson, Susan Obi, Edrei Yates were able to take third with a time of 49.54. In the individual races, Yates secured second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.49.  Behind her, in third, finished Anderson in 12.68 with Mitchell in sixth in 12.71. In the 200 meters, Mitchell took fourth in 26.54 and Yates finished fifth with 26.63.

 

The 400 meters saw junior Sarah Hossack snap up fifth in 1:01.01, followed by Obi in seventh with 1:04.43. Kelly finished sixth in the 100m hurdles with 17.24, as well as ninth in the 800 meters with 2:49.25.

 

The women's team will be on the road again next week as they get set to compete in Atlanta, Ga. in the Emory Invitational, March 23-24.
