Augusta Snags Second To Start Season At Savannah State Eyeopener

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team traveled to Savannah, Ga. to open the 2018 season at the Savannah State Eyeopener and took second out of 11 teams.

 

Host Savannah State held off the Jaguars to win the event with 135.50 points. Augusta had 102 points for second overall. In the field, the Jaguars had several podium finishes. Junior Macy Hayes took first in the women's high jump with a height of 1.56 meters and sophomore JaNae Marzell placed second in the hammer throw with a distance of 38.30 meters.

 

AU's 4x400 team of Sarach Hossack, Edrei Yates, Susan Obi, and Morgan Mitchell took fourth with a time of 4:23.21 and senior Lara Way won her first event on the season, taking the women's 1500-meter run with a time of4:57.99. She was followed by freshman Micah Weathers in second place in 4:58.73.

 

Other podium winners included senior Diana Petrmichlova (women's 800-meter run, second), junior Kiana Kelly (women's 100 meter, third), and freshman Hunter Kimball (men's 1500 meter run, third).

 

Both Augusta teams will compete next on March 3, at the Victor Icebreaker Duals, hosted by Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga.
