ATLANTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team traveled to Atlanta, Ga. this weekend to compete in this year's Emory Invitational, hosted by Emory University. The regionally ranked Jaguars finished ninth out of 24 competing schools.
Emory took first with 146.75 points, followed by Cedarville with 77 and Hope College with 71 in second and third, respectively.
In the field, junior Macy Hayes led the way by taking first place in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters and freshman Alyisha Anderson snagged fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.96 meters. In the javelin toss, junior Kiana Kelly finished eighth with a throw of 30.84 meters and she was followed by sophomore Mallory Howard in ninth with a reach of 29.25 meters.
On the track, Senior Lara Way broke a new school record in the 10,000 meter race with a time of 37:52.25, taking third in the process. She was trailed by McKenzie Knudsen in sixth with a time of 39:08.27.
The 4x100 team of Anderson, junior Morgan Mitchell, junior Susan Obi, and sophomore Edrei Yates finished fourth in 48.73 and the 4x400 squad featuring Sarah Hossack, Miranda Taylor, Susan Obi, and Morgan Mitchell took sixth with 4:07.29. Other top-10 finishes on the track included: Edrei Yates (100m, sixth) and Kelly Kiana (100m hurdles, seventh).
The Jaguars will be in action again April 5-6 at the William and Mary Colonial Relays, hosted by College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Va.
