Jaguar Trio Named To NCAA DII Women’s Outdoor Track & Field All-Region Team
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Augusta University women's track and field team had three student-athletes on the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field All-Region team. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the All-Region team on Tuesday and sophomores Heather Hammett, Kiana Kelly, and freshman Shelby Myers represent Augusta.

Hammett received the award for the 400 meter hurdles, Kelly for the heptathlon, and Myers for the shot put.

 

Hammett (Evans, Ga.) set two new school records this season for the 400 meter run and the 400 meter hurdles. She was a Peach Belt All-Conference selection and competed in 28 events total with 17 top-five finishes and 24 top 10s.

 

Kelly (Augusta, Ga.) was named Peach Belt All-Conference after taking third in the heptathlon at the PBC Championships. She saw action in 34 events on the season and recorded 20 top-five finishes while winning three events. Kelly also holds the new school record in the heptathlon, high jump, and triple jump.

 

Myers (Niceville, Fla.) impressed in her rookie campaign and was named Peach Belt All-Conference after carding third in the shot put. Myers set the school record for the shot put this season and competed in 10 events total. She had seven top-10 finishes for Augusta.

 

A total of 621 women from 147 institutions made up the 925 women's USTFCCCA All-Region honors.

 

Seven programs boasted 20 or more women's All-Region honorees, led by Grand Valley State's 25. Pittsburg State and Nova Southeastern each posted 24, followed by Southern Connecticut (23), Adams State (22), Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) and Wingate (20).
