Women’s Track Fifth After Two Days At PBC Championships

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team wrapped up day two of the Peach Belt Conference Championships on Friday afternoon at the University of Montevallo Track and Field Facility. The Jaguars are in fifth place after two days of competition.

 

The event kicked off on Thursday at the University of Montevallo with a packed day featuring 31 events across men's and women's competition. It continued on Friday and PBC associate member Nova Southeastern leads , UNC Pembroke is second, Montevallo third, PBC associate member Florida Tech fourth, AU fifth, North Georgia sixth, Clayton State seventh, and Columbus State eighth.

 

Jaguar sophomore Heather Hammett broke her school record in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.35 to take second overall and qualify provisionally for the NCAA Championships. Mallory Howard carded fifth in the javelin throw with a toss of 32.34 meters and Kiana Kelly grabbed sixth for the long jump in 5.33 meters to post a new school record.

 

Kelly finished third in the heptathlon with 4,182 points. She placed second in the shot put (10.42m), and fourth in the high jump (1.49m), 100m hurdles (15.92), 200m dash (27.02).

 

Thursday's 1500m race saw Kate Boland pace AU and take sixth with a time of 4:50.17. Pricilla Cartwright landed ninth in 5:08.43 and Olivia Rodriguez took 15th in 5:21.39.

 

Edrei Yates was seventh in the 100m dash (12.24) in day one action and Macy Hayes and Kelly placed third and fourth in the high jump on Friday.
