Women's Track Breaks Three School Records At Emory Classic

ATLANTA, Ga. – For the third straight season, the Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team competed at the Emory Classic and the Jaguars took 12th out of 27 teams. The 2017 edition lasted Friday and Saturday in Atlanta and the Lady Jags broke school records in the shot put, 400 meter, and 4x100 meter race.

 

Georgia State won the meet, Shorter sealed second, Oberlin third, host Emory fourth, and Hope fifth for the top-five teams. AU tied with SCAD for 12th place.

 

Augusta's Shelby Myers broke her school record for the shot put with a toss of 12.30 meters – good for sixth place on Saturday.

 

Heather Hammett set the new top time for Augusta in the 400 meter in 59.07 to take 15th and AU's 4x400 meter crew of Morgan Mitchell, Susan Obi, Sarah Hossack Hammett set the new school record with a time of 4:01.72 to take fifth of 27 finishing teams.

 

Kate Boland brought in a time of 4:56.97 to earn second in the 1500 meter run, Diana Petrmichlova took 11th in the 5000 meter, and Lara Way willed herself to an eighth-place mark in the 10K race.

 

Hammett crossed the line in 1:03.06 in the 400 meter hurdles to take third overall and high jumper Macy Hayes earned 10th with a jump of 1.50m. Kiana Kelly gave the Jags a ninth-place showing in the triple jump and Mallory Howard placed 10th with a finish of 29.04m.

 

Augusta heads to Southern Wesleyan April 7-8 in Central, S.C.
