Augusta Earns Second To Start Season At Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team started the 2017 campaign on Saturday at the Columbus State Cougar Invitational and finished second amongst nine teams. The Jaguars earned three first-place finishes across three different events.

Augusta senior Angelica Clayton won the 100 meter dash in 12.61, freshman Kate Boland owned the 800 meter run in 2:26.97, and junior Heather Hammett won the 400 meter hurdles with a finishing time of 1:05.23.

 

Montevallo won the overall event with 146 points to AU's 135. Host Columbus State notched third, Clark Atlanta fourth, and Central State fifth for the top five teams.

 

Rookie Edrei Yates grabbed fourth place in 12.83, junior Dejah Johnson sixth with a time of 13.00, and sophomore Samantha Kaczor 18th in in 14.12. Johnson earned seventh in the 200 meter dash and Clayton eighth.

 

Sophomore Morgan Mitchell was close off the finish in the 400 meter dash as she took third out of 19 in 1:01.89. In the high jump, sophomore Macy Hayes jumped to second place

 

A pack of Jags finished together in the lengthy 1500. Boaldn and junior Lara Way carded third and fourth, before Olivia Rodriguez, Pricilla Cartwright, Diana Petrmichlova, and Mckenzie Knudsen finished sixth through ninth.

 

Freshman thrower Shelby Myers launched the shot put 11.89m to claim second out of 17.

 

Augusta heads to Pembroke, N.C., on Saturday, March 4 for the UNCP Braves Classic.
