Augusta Track & Field Targets Columbus State Invitational To Open 2017

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Augusta University women's and men's outdoor track and field teams begin the 2017 season on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Columbus State Cougar Invitational. Field events begin at 9:00 a.m. and running events start at noon at Brookstone High School.

Hosted by Columbus State University, the event will mark the fourth-consecutive trip for Augusta. Head Coach Adam Ward and the Jags begin the fifth season of AU track and field overall.

"The unusually warm February has allowed us to get a lot more work in than year's past, so we are eager to see where we are as we go into this weekend's 'rust buster'.," Ward said. "We are counting on our juniors and seniors to step up big for us this season and help us get back near the top of the conference standings in April."

Ward hired graduate assistants Taylor Browning and Michael Romano in the offseason to assist with the squads in the upcoming season.

The Jaguar men finished in the top 10 in the team standings in all six meets last season. The 2015-16 squad had three top-five finishes including back-to-back second-place showings to start the season. As a team they also set five new school records in the 100 meter, 200 meter, 110 meter hurdles, and the discus and hammer throw.
