Track Jags Embark On Fifth Season At Augusta University

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams announced their schedule for the upcoming 2017 season which begins Saturday, Feb. 25.

Year five for the track and field programs commences under head coach Adam Ward's direction. The Jaguar men and women compete at the same meets and have the same 2017 schedule.

For the fourth straight season, the Jaguars open the year at the Columbus State Invitational in Columbus, Ga., on Saturday, Feb. 25. Augusta will get to see Peach Belt Conference competition in Columbus and at the UNCP Braves Classic on March 4 in Pembroke, N.C.

Augusta stays in North Carolina for the next three meets and travels to the Mount Olive Invitational in Wilson, N.C., on March 17, the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., March 24-25, and the Wingate Invitational in Wingate, N.C., March 25.

The Jaguars will send split squads to Raleigh, Wingate, and their next race – the Southern Wesleyan Challenge in Central, S.C., on April 7-8.

The University of Montevallo hosts the Peach belt Conference Championships April 20-22 in Montevallo, Ala. The league final lasts from Thursday to Saturday at the Montevallo XC Course.

Two last chance meets are scheduled for athletes who have a chance to be NCAA Championship qualifiers. NCAA qualifiers will travel to the Wolfpack Last Chance Meet May 5-6 in Raleigh, N.C., and the Shorter Last Chance meet May 13-14 in Rome, Ga.

The NCAA Championships are set for May 26-28 in Bradenton, Fla.

MEN'S TRACK

The Jaguar men finished in the top 10 in the team standings in all six meets last season. The 2015-16 squad had three top-five finishes including back-to-back second-place showings to start the season. As a team they also set five new school records in the 100 meter, 200 meter, 110 meter hurdles, and the discus and hammer throw.

 

WOMEN'S TRACK

The Jaguar women finished in the top 10 in the team standings in five of their six meets last season. The 2015-16 squad had three top-five finishes and set four new school records in the 3000 meter race, 400 meter hurdles, high jump, and triple jump.
