Track Jags Jump To Fifth At Berry College Field Day

ROME, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars women's outdoor track and field team competed in their sixth meet of the season and carded fifth place out of 16 teams on Saturday at the Berry College Field Day Invitational in Rome, Ga.

The Jaguars compete in the Peach Belt Conference Championships April 21-23, hosted by UNC Pembroke, in Pembroke, N.C.

The Berry College Vikings hosted the event and welcomed 26 teams and over 700 athletes for the women's and men's event.

Kiana Kelly set a new school record for the triple jump – taking eighth at 10.87m and 12th in shot put (9.15m). Kelly earned fourth in the long jump (4.95m) and javelin (30.63m). She also picked up ninth in the 100 meter hurdles.

The Jags finished third in the 100 meter dash with Dejah Johnson finishing in 12.20 for the solid start. Johnson also took fifth of 32 in the 200 meter dash at 25.83.

Another top-five finish came in the 3000 meter steeplechase with Morgan Ryffe placing fourth in 12:09.20.

The Jaguars sent two quartets to compete in the 4x400 meter relay and Augusta finished fourth and fifth place amongst the nine teams. Aaliyah Pettway, Amber Palermo, Morgan Mitchell, and Taylor Shaw raced together and took fourth and Sarah Hossack, Jasmine Payne, Diana Petrmichlova, and Morgan Ryffe placed fifth together.

Augusta's Macy Hayes finished inside the top 10 in the high jump to take eighth and in the 5000 meter run Jordan Humphrey and Olivia Rodriguez shined for the Jags as Humphrey's carded fifth of 48 racers in 18:45.51 and Rodriguez seventh in 18:48.08.

Rodriguez also placed 16th in the 1500 meter run, while Diana Petrmichlova nabbed 19th in 5:12.34.

In the 400 meter dash, Augusta got an eighth place mark in the field of 19 from Heather Hammett who finished in 1:01.01. Aaliyah Pettway carded 12th in 1:04.84. Hammett secured second place in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:04.58

In the 800 meter run, Amber Palermo was 11th with a time of 2:27.34 and Sarah Hossack placed 15th in 2:32.15. Taylor Shaw and Morgan Mitchell finished in 21st and 22nd as well.
