Jaguars Edge Columbus State For Fourth Place At Falcon Classic

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Augusta University women's outdoor track and field team competed at the Falcon Classic on Friday and Saturday and came in fourth place of 10 competing teams.

In their fifth meet of the season, the Jaguars finished with 64 total points across 21 events, ahead of the Columbus State with 61 points in fifth.

Meet host Montevallo protected their home turf with a first place showing. Birmingham-Southern booked second, Alabama-Huntsville third, Augusta fourth, and Columbus State fifth to round out the top five. 

Sophomore Dejah Johnson shined in her two events with back-to-back third place showings in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Johnson took a third place finish in the 100m with a time of 12.51 and finished the 200m in 25.91. Junior Angelica Clayton took home ninth in the 100m with a time of 13.00.

Sophomore Heather Hammett got the top result for Augusta with a first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.59.

Senior Jenna Foster participated in most of the Friday events for the Jaguars, placing fourth in the 100m hurdles, 200m dash, and high jump. Foster placed second in the shot put with a distance of 7.13m. Freshman Kiana Kelly also participated well on Friday, placing fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.08m and fourth in the javelin throw with a 29.97m throw.

The Jaguars looked strong in the 5000m run with a seventh place finish by senior Jordan Humphrey (18:55.61) and eighth place finish by junior Olivia Rodriguez (19:07.78). Junior Morgan Ryffe placed 11th in the event with a time of 19:18.81.

Augusta also looked strong in the 1500m run as sophomore Amber Palermo took home a sixth place finish with a time of 5:05.26 and Taylor Shaw followed her in seventh place with a time of 5:07.13. Sophomore Jasmine Payne placed 19th in the event with a time of 5:24.27.

In the 800m run, sophomore Diana Petrmichlova placed 12th with a time of 2:29.94 and freshman Sarah Hossack took 16th with a time of 2:32.58. Freshman Kindall Weeks placed 11th in the shot put with a distance of 8.88m.

The Jaguars will send distance runners only for the Vertklasse Meeting, hosted by High Point University, in High Point, N.C., on Friday, April 1. Augusta sends split squads to the Berry College Field Day on April 9, and to the UGA Specs Towns Invite April 8-9.
