Jaguars begin fourth season competing in the NCAA

AUGUSTA, Ga. – With just weeks away from the start of their 2016 seasons, the Augusta Jaguars men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are ready to embark on their fourth season.

The Jaguars begin the fresh slate on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Columbus State Cougar Invitational in Columbus, Ga., for the season-opening meet.

""We are ready to build off our successes with five individual conference champions for the men last year and some podium (all conference) finishes for the women," Head Coach Adam Ward said. "With a lot of returners and a little more depth added, we expect to improve on last year's teams placing at PBC's (Championships) and maybe grab some team hardware as well for individuals."

Augusta returns to competition on March 4 and will get to view the conference championship site at the UNCP Braves Classic, hosted by UNC Pembroke, in Pembroke, N.C. The squads compete in back-to-back weekends to close out the month of March at the Emory Invitational (March 18-19) in Atlanta, Ga., and the Falcon Classic (March 25-26) in Montevallo, Ala.

Distance only athletes travel to the Vertklasse Meeting at High Point University in High Point, N.C., on April 1 and on April 8-9 split squads travel to the Berry College Field Day in Mount Berry, Ga., and the UGA Spec Towns Invite at the Spec Towns Track in Athens, Ga.

The Peach Belt Conference Championships will be hosted by UNC Pembroke from April 21-23 for the last team meet of the season. The last four events on the slate are for NCAA individual qualifiers who become eligible during the regular-season by nearing a national standard.

The Hillsdale College Chargers host the Hillsdale Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich., April 28-30 and the Bulldogs host the UGA Invitational April 29-30. Montevallo holds a last chance meet May 13-14 and the NCAA Championships will be held in Bradenton, Fla., May 26-28.
