GRU Fifth At Cougar Invite

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The GRU Augusta women's Outdoor track & field team finished fifth out of eight teams in their second meet of the season at the Cougar Invitational, hosted by Columbus State, in Columbus, Ga.

The Jags won the 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles thanks to Heather Hammett taking first in the 100 in 16.02 and first in the 400 in 1:05.24 – besting seven other competitors.

In the 100-meter dash, GRU's Angelica Clayton took second out of 18 in 12.56. Morgan Ryffe carded a top-five finish as well with a time of 2:27.16 in the 800 meter run. Taylor Shaw took eighth in the 800 meter at 2:29.44 and Aaliyah Pettway, Diana Petrimichlova, and Rayne Cartwright finished 13th 14th and 16th in the 800.

Shaw and Jordan Humphrey shined in the 1500 meter run, with Shaw (5:08.28) taking fourth and Humphrey fifth (5:12.24). Columbus State won the 4x100 meter relay, but the Jags finished close in second with a team of Aaliyah Pettway, Adanna Thompson, Angelica Clayton, and Dejah Johnson.

In the throwing events, GRU had three top-five finishes. JaVoni Canty finished third in the shot put and second in the discus throw. For javelin, Sabiyah Broderick carded fifth and Tessa Patterson notched 11th.

The Jags compete at the Lion/Jaguar Invite in Augusta, Ga., on Saturday, March 7.
