Jags Compete Well At Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, SC. – The GRU Augusta men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed in their second meet of the season this past weekend at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Conway, S.C.  Teams traveled from all over the country to participate in the two-day event.

The first day of competition resulted in some major performances for the Jaguars, as three school records were taken down.  Dustin Ross broke his previous record in the men's 5000m race, placing third in the event with a time of 14:57.16.  Jordan Humphrey claimed the women's record in the same event, also crossing the line in third with a time of 18:25.79.  Lastly, Morgan Ryffe stamped her name in the record books with a solid showing in the women's 800m run.  Ryffe recorded a time of 2:28.05 for the two-lap race.

Finishing not far behind Ross in the men's 5k were Jaiden Brandt (15:03.32), and Nick Del Guercio (15:13.30).  Shane Huckeba also had a solid showing in the event, crossing the line in 15:39.92.  

Among other top performances on the weekend include Christian Collier's third place finish in the men's long jump, as well as winning his heat in the 200m dash with a time of 22.80. Allen Eckles sprinted across the line first in his heat of the 100m dash, clocking a time of 11.24.  Eckles later helped his teammates Ryan White, Albert Acheampong, and Macey Zellner to a victory in their heat of the men's 4x400m relay.  Adanna Thompson competed well for the Lady Jags in the women's open 200m, recording a time of 27.44, which was good enough for a top-ten finish.

The Jaguars can be seen in action again in Conway next weekend at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational, as well as in two weeks at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
