Women’s Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team, Six Honored As Scholar Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2019 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes on Thursday and the Augusta University men's tennis team was dubbed an All-Academic Team, while six student-athletes were named All-Academic Scholar Athletes. AU juniors Marie Cantenot, Merye Gobernate, Eva Miralles-Miro and sophomores Ana Faria, Flaminia Valci, and Maria Alice Vieira represented the Jaguars as individuals.

 

This year the Intercollegiate Tennis Association saw an increase in qualifying teams and scholar-athletes. All-Academic honors were awarded to 940 teams and thousands of scholar-athletes. 

 

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2018 and spring 2019).

 

ITA scholar-athletes must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
