ANDERSON, S.C. – It was AU against AU on Thursday afternoon as Augusta University traveled to Anderson University for a midweek non-conference women's tennis match. Augusta pulled out a 5-3 victory at the AU Tennis Complex.
The Jaguars are now 5-2 overall and Anderson slid to 2-2. Anderson won the No. 1 doubles and singles match, but Augusta rolled in the next six matches, as one went unfinished.
Freshman Ana Faria came back from a 0-6 loss at No. 2 singles and won 7-6, 6-3 to get AU going after they won two of three at doubles. Sophomores Merye Gobernate and Alejandra Gonzalez Arranz won at No.3 and No. 4 singles, while senior Amelia Pinoargote bested Hannah Weaver at No. 6 singles to win 6-4, 6-3. AU is now 5-1 in non-conference matches this season.
The Jaguars continue Peach Belt play this Saturday, Feb. 17 with a trip to the beach in St. Augustine, Fla., to take on Flagler College.
