MORROW, Ga. – The Augusta University women's tennis team traveled to the Atlanta, Ga., area on Sunday afternoon to take on Clayton State and the Jaguars won 7-2 for their first Peach Belt Conference victory of the season.
AU improved to 6-10 on the year and moves to 1-8 in the league. Clayton State slides to 2-9 overall and 0-7 in the Peach Belt.
The Jags fell in the No. 1 singles match, but then won the next five matches for a big lead. Monica Gonzalez and Eva Miralles-Miro only dropped two sets in their singles matches, while Alejandra Gonzalez was flawless in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
Amelia Pinoargote and Joana Barcelo each won 6-1, 6-0 for Augusta at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Clayton State snagged the No. 1 doubles match with Darina Drozdova and Kristin Mets winnins 8-1 over Miralles-Miro and Marie Cantenot. AU responsed with Gonzalez and Pinoargote winning 8-2 in the second doubles match and Gonzalez and Merye Gobernate 8-2.
Augusta hosts Georgia College on Tuesday, March 28 for a 1:00 p.m. match in Newman Tennis Center.
