Women’s & Men's Tennis Ranked Nationally In The Top 50

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Augusta University men's and women's tennis teams are ranked amongst the top-50 teams in the nation in the 2016 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Division II National Fall Rankings, as announced on Tuesday by Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Lady Jaguars sit No. 42 in the preseason ITA list and the Augusta men are ranked No. 49.

 

Both the men's and women's squads are also ranked ninth in the NCAA Southeast Region.

 

Augusta sophomore Patrick Oliveira is ranked No. 12 in the nation as an individual for singles play. Oliveira was named the Male Freshman of the Year at the Augusta University Athletics Awards Banquet and the MVP for men's tennis in 2016. He was ranked No. 11 in the nation and No. 3 in the NCAA Southeast Region as a freshman and posted a 14-6 mark for singles and played in the No. 1 slot all season.

 

Defending NCAA Division II national champions Armstrong State and Hawai´i Pacific are the women's and men's top-ranked teams National women's runner-up, BYU-Hawaii, checks in at No. 2 in the fall rankings, followed by Lynn at No. 3, Saint Leo at No. 4 and Hawai´i Pacific at No. 5. Barry (No. 6), West Florida (No. 7), Columbus State (No. 8), Northeastern State (No. 9) and St. Mary's (TX) round out the women's Top 10.

 

On the men's side, Saint Leo is No. 2, with Armstrong State (No. 3), Lander (No. 4) and Valdosta State completing the Top 5. Columbus State (No. 6), Barry (No. 7), Lynn (No. 8), West Florida (No. 9) and Embry-Riddle complete the national Top 10.

 

National women's runner-up, BYU-Hawaii, checks in at No. 2 in the fall rankings, followed by Lynn at No. 3, Saint Leo at No. 4 and Hawai´i Pacific at No. 5. Barry (No. 6), West Florida (No. 7), Columbus State (No. 8), Northeastern State (No. 9) and St. Mary's (TX) round out the women's Top 10.

 

On the men's side, Saint Leo is No. 2, with Armstrong State (No. 3), Lander (No. 4) and Valdosta State completing the Top 5. Columbus State (No. 6), Barry (No. 7), Lynn (No. 8), West Florida (No. 9) and Embry-Riddle complete the national Top 10.
