AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta women's tennis team earned the fifth seed in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament and will play fourth-seeded Flagler in the first round matches on Friday, April 24 at 9:00 a.m. The tournament will begin this Friday at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center in Florence, S.C.
The top eight teams in the league following the regular season advance to tournament play with the winner getting an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
GRU Augusta is the fifth seed in the PBC Tournament. The Jaguars are 15-5 overall, the second time in the last three years they have won 15 or more. Ranked No. 48 in the nation, the Jaguars will look to begin tournament play by avenging a late February road loss at Flagler.
The Jags went 8-5 in the Peach Belt this season and 9-2 at home in Newman Tennis Center this year.
Flagler enters the PBC Tournament as the No. 4 seed, the third time in the last four years the Saints have been seeded fourth or higher in the PBC. Going 9-4 in conference play and 12-9 overall, the 16th-ranked Saints reached the semifinals of the 2014 PBC Tournament.
