AUGUSTA, Ga. – The nationally-ranked Jaguars took down rival USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference match at Newman Tennis Center Thursday, April 16 in the last regular-season home match of 2015.
The match marked the last home event for GRU senior Aida Castany, the two-year senior from Barcelona, Spain.
Ranked No. 48 according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, GRU Augusta moved to 15-4 overall and 8-4 in the Peach Belt Conference with the league victory over the Pacers. GRU Augusta swept the doubles competition in all three matches, with Castany and Maria Nadal winning in the second slot 8-1.
Due to approaching weather, a few singles matches were not finished, but the Jags prevailed with Gisela Font, Maria Cecilia Pimentel, Nadal, and Amelia Pinoargote all getting wins.
The Jags have one more regular-season match scheduled for Sunday, April 19 at Lander in Greenwood, S.C., for a 1:00 p.m., Peach Belt Conference match.
