AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta Jaguars beat the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in their home opener of the spring 2015 season in an 8-1 non-conference match Friday afternoon at Newman Tennis Center.
The Jags swept doubles play 3-0 and Monica Gonzalez won the opening singles match in three close sets. Gonzalez won the first set before falling in the second. In the third, Gonzalez outlasted Zorica Djuric 10-3, but Font fell to Dominique Bruce 10-5. The rest of singles play for GRU was secured.
Aida Castany, Maria Cecilia Pimentel, Maria Nadal, and Amelia Pinoargote won with ease in the final four single slots. The Jags continue Peach Belt Conference play at Clayton State on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
