Women’s Tennis Scores PBC Win

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta State women's tennis team took down Lander 8-1 in Peach Belt Conference play Saturday, while the No. 12-ranked men fell 5-1 to No. 9 Lander.

The Lady Jags (11-9, 5-5 PBC) swept the double matches and failed to drop a set in four singles matches for the win.

Marina Ferreira's 6-0, 6-1 dismantling in the No. 1 singles slot set the tone, as Liv Petersson, Roberta Oliveira, Lissa Murakami, and Julie Fontaine all registered singles wins.

Petersson teamed with Victoria Lindqvist for an 8-6 doubles win in the No. 1 doubles slot, and Oliveira/Fontaine and Murakami/Ferreira won to give each player a perfect day.

On the men's (14-7, 3-4 PBC) side, only the No. 2 doubles squad of Victor Guimaraes and Victor Cabellos could book a 8-4 win for ASU. Three singles matches were left unfinished once the result was determined, including Jan Labas' No. 3 singles match, which he led 6-2, 5-5 when play was halted.

Both teams return to the court Sunday, April 15 as they host Columbus State in PBC action. Play begins at noon.
