Nationally-Ranked Augusta Concludes Season In NCAA Tournament

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Augusta University women's golf team finished the 2018-19 season on Wednesday afternoon at the NCAA East Lansing Regional at Forest Akers West Golf Course. Making their eighth trip all time to the NCAA Tournament and the third trip in four seasons under current head coach Caroline Hegg, the Jaguars shattered school records this season, but missed a trip to the NCAA Championships.

 

 

No. 45 in the nation, the fourth-highest national rank in school history, Augusta tied for 14th at the NCAA regional with Xavier at 47-over-par. No. 12 Kent State won the tournament at 4-under-par, No. 5 Arizona took second (-3) and No. 14 UCLA finished third (+10). No. 4 Stanford carded fourth (+14), No. 28 Illinois fifth (+18), and Indiana sixth (+19). The top six teams in the regional advance to the NCAA Championships.

 

Jaguar junior Linda Lundqvist led the team after three days and finished in a tie for 39th (+8), while senior Cecilia Diez-Moliner took a tied for 53rd (+12). Sophomore Teresa Diez-Moliner tied for 61st (+14), junior Charlotte Alran tied for 66th (+15), and senior Maggie Ashmore tied for 82nd (+21). The Jags totaled 24 birdies in the event.

 

Under Hegg, the Jaguars have advanced to the NCAA Regional three times in her four years overseeing the program. The 2018-19 squad shattered several school records, while earning another national ranking.
