ATHENS, Ga. – The Augusta University women's golf teams competes in the 47th Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, April 11-13, at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga., for one of the oldest sporting events in all of women's intercollegiate golf.
Ranked No. 54 in the nation according to Golstat.com and 57th by Golf Week, the Jaguars join No. 21 Alabama, No. 5 Arkansas, Daytona State, Denver, No. 7 Florida, No. 39 Georgia, No. 37 Kennesaw State, No. 40 Louisville, No. 36 Ole Miss, and No. 12 South Carolina.
The event begins with stroke on Thursday and features match play on Friday and Saturday. Augusta tees off with the Florida Gators at 8:30 a.m. on hole #1 to begin the tournament Thursday on the par-72, 6,401-yard course.
The tournament began humbly in 1973 as the Georgia Invitational before becoming the Women's Southern Intercollegiates from 1977-94. In 1995, the tournament was renamed in honor of Liz Murphey, UGA's Hall of Fame golf coach and long-time Senior Woman Administrator. Beginning 2014, the Liz Murphey featured a combined stroke play/match play format in advance of a similar move for the NCAA Championships later that spring.
