MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Augusta University women's golf team is in third place and one shot off the lead, after playing 36 holes on Monday to open play in the Moon Golf Invitational at Duran Golf Club. The Jaguars shot 8-under-par in round two and climbed the leaderboard four spots.
Augusta's second tournament of the 2019 portion of its schedule is hosted by Louisville on the par-72, 6,309-yard course and features Campbell, FIU, Kansas, Kennesaw State, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Old Dominion, Seminole State, Texas A&M, and UCF. No. 30 Louisville and UCF share first place at 7-under-par, while No. 50 Augusta is one shot back.
The event kicked off in shotgun start for rounds one and two on Monday and the Jaguars were tied for seventh place through 18 holes. Augusta fired 23 birdies as a team in the second round and are 6-under-par heading into the final round. Finishing top-10 individually last week in Puerto Rico, Jags junior Linda Lundqvist is tied for sixth (-4) overall with back-to-back rounds of 2-under 70.
Augusta junior Charlotte Alran finished 3-under in round two and is tied for 12th overall, while sophomore Teresa Diez-Moliner turned in two rounds at even par to take a tie for 19th. Senior Maggie Ashmore sits 32nd (+2) and senior Cecilia Diez-Moliner is tied for 58th (+6), with C. Diez-Moliner also shooting a 69 in round two.
The final round takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 19 with another shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
