Augusta Has Record Day To Take Third At Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Augusta University women's golf team flew to fabulous Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and finished in third place overall for its best finish of the young season. Augusta shot 18-under-par (846) at Boulder Creek Golf Club and posted the lowest 54-hole total in school history, while junior Charlotte Alran turned in a 65 (-7) for the lowest single-round score ever for the Jaguars.

 

 

Hosted by the UNLV Rebels Oct. 21-23 on the par-72, 6,343-yard course at Boulder Creek, the tournament featured Augusta, Colorado State, Fresno State, Idaho, Long Beach State, Minnesota, Nebraska, UNR, Northern Arizona, Oral Roberts, Oregon State, Portland State, San Francisco, Tulsa, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, and UNLV. The event started on Sunday at noon with round one. Round two and three started at 8:00 a.m. on Oct. 22 and 23, with all three rounds being a shotgun format.

 

Oregon State ran away with the title at 26-under-par. Tulsa took second (-22), Augusta third (-18), Long Beach State fourth (-8), and Idaho fifth (-7).

 

The Jags sent seniors Maggie Ashmore and Cecilia Diez-Moliner, juniors Charlotte Alran and Linda Lundqvist, and freshman Natalia Yoko who was competing in her first collegiate event. After two rounds, AU was in third place after shooting 9-under-par in round two on Monday and remained there with a round three 281 (-7). It is Augusta's best finish this season.

 

Alran recovered from a slow first round to tie the single round record with a 66 (-6) in the second round for the Jags. She fired a bogey-free 65 with seven birdies to tie for third overall at 10-under-par. Ashmore was tied for second heading into the final round and C. Diez-Moliner was tied for fourth. They each ended tied for eighth (-6), while Lundqvist took a T43 and Yoko a T68 after shooting a 73 on Tuesday for her lowest round of the week.

 

The event wraps up play for the Jags this fall. The team returns in the New Year Feb. 10-12 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by Purdue, in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico at Rio Mar Country Club.
