AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the sixth straight season, the Augusta University women's golf team has received the NCAA Public Recognition Award for being in the top 10 academic progress rate for division-I NCAA golf. This is the second award for head coach Caroline Hegg.
Augusta University was one of the 1,200 teams from 312 Division I schools who were recognized. The NCAA gives this honor to teams who have ranked in the top 10 percentile in their respective sports or between a 985 to a perfect score of 1,000 for the academic year.
The NCAA tracks the academic performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scoreboard (APR) of academic achievement. It was implemented in 2003 and honors selected Division I sport teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear APR. The most recent APRs are based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, and 2016-17 academic years.
"I applaud every program earning a Public Recognition Award this year for their commitment to going above and beyond to prepare students for life after college through academic achievement," NCAA President Mark Emmert said. "To have nine national champions so far this year — including men's and women's basketball — be among those recognized illustrates that student-athletes succeed athletically and academically."
