MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Augusta University women's golf team finished the Moon Golf Invitational at Duran Golf Club in a tie for fifth with Memphis at 18-over par, after shooting 14 over on Tuesday in the final round. Juniors Maggie Ashmore and Cecilia Diez-Moliner guided the Jaguars for all three rounds and Ashmore finished fourth (E) and C. Diez-Moliner fifth in the field of 74.
Sitting in second place and five shots off the lead to begin round three, Augusta turned in a 302 (+14) on the scorecard after shooting 288 and 292 on the par-72, 6,309 yard course. No. 9 Furman broke away from the field and won the tournament 1-under par. Old Dominion took second (+16), Virginia Tech and Chattanooga climbed the standings to tie for second, while Augusta and Memphis shared fifth place in the 11-team field.
Furman's Alice Chen finished 5-under par to win the individual title and guide the Lady Paladins to victory.
Ashmore shot 75 (+3) in her final 18 holes for Augusta to follow rounds of 68 (-4) and 73 (+1) on Monday. The 68 was the low round for AU in the tourney. C. Diez-Moliner tied for fifth in the event, but shot her worst round of 76 on Tuesday after firing 69 and 72 on day one. The two combined for 23 birdies in the evebnt.
Sophomore Linda Lundqvist placed tied for 28th, freshman Teresa Diez-Moliner tied for 46th, and sophomore Charlotte Alran finished 48th for Augusta.
