MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Augusta University women's golf team is in second place after playing 36 holes on Monday to open the Moon Golf Invitational and are five shots behind No. 9 Furman at Duran Golf Club. Augusta shot 4-over par 575 on Monday and juniors Maggie Ashmore and Cecilia Diez-Moliner are tied for second overall at 3-under par.
In their second event of the spring and their sixth of the season, the Jaguars have three in the top 20 on the par-72, 6,309 yard course to sit runner-up to the Lady Paladins. Old Dominion clocked in at third (+10), Memphis was fourth (+11), and Virginia Tech was fifth (+12) to best the 11-team field.
Augusta was tied for second after round one when they shot even par as a team, sitting second to No. 9 Furman who shot 4-under in the opening round. AU followed with a 292 to remain atop the leaderboard
In round one, Ashmore and C. Diez-Moliner each shot in the 60s. Ashmore fired a 4-under 68 in round one and even par in round two, while C. Diez-Moliner shot 69 (-3) and 73 (+1). The two sit second, while freshman Teresa Diez-Moliner is tied 17th, with two rounds of 74 (+2).
Sophomores Linda Lundqvist and Charlotte Alran round out the Jags, with Lundqvist sitting 35th and Alran 51st.
The final round is a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
